Cardingmill Valley – within a minute’s walk of The Holt:
As you can see from this picture, The Holt is just a few metres from the cattle grid and gate which mark the entrance onto the Long Mynd.
Immediately after the cattle grid, your path divides into three directions.
Taking the left hand footpath after the cattle grid skirts you around the outside of Burway Hill, past Rectory Woods, and further up to Townbrook Valley.
Going straight on from the cattle grid takes you on a single track road up on to Burway Hill itself, and on past Devil’s Mouth. From there you can walk to Pole Bank, the highest point on the Long Mynd at 1,693 feet.
Taking the right hand footpath after the cattle grid leads you along the side of the world famous Cardingmill Valley, with absolutely stunning views of Haddon Hill, Bodbury Hill and the other hills along the valley.
